BarnlØs in Danish means childless, and BarnlØs is the name of Rune Klan’s 2018 stage show. Rune Klan is to Denmark as Luis De Matos is to Portugal and David Copperfield is to the US. BarnlØs is a 1.5 hour downloadable video of Rune Klan’s stage performance under that same name. Also included, is a 1 hour interview with Rune Klan discussing his growth in magic. The show revolves around Rune Klan’s journey to father a child, the disappointment of being unable to do so and then ultimately adopting a child. With the download you receive a deck of cards celebrating the adoption of the child.

If you decide to purchase BarnlØs you will get to watch a magic performance that more than likely you will never get a chance to see otherwise. In addition, you will get to understand how others assemble a show via the thought process and scripting. Finally, you will watch a magic show unlike you typically have ever seen. That said what you will not get is the following. First, there are no explanations of the tricks so if that is what you are seeking this is not for you. Secondly, you will not be able to replicate the style because it is so individualistic that more than likely it would not suit you. Finally, you will probably never be able to use anything from this download because as far as I can see, the theme, language (I don’t mean Danish) and personal anecdotes would not be tolerated by an American audience (in my opinion).

To encapsulate the show, it starts off with a 15 minute rant (yes rant) a 2 minute magic trick, another 15 minute rant followed by another 2 minute magic trick and so on for the entire show. The topics discussed are probably not considered suitable for a general audience and I’m sure most people here in the US would not be interested in the mathematics of sperm counts (yes, that is correct). So the question is why is it given a 5 star review? The simple answer is that the star ratings are based on quality of product, instruction (in this case an interview) and the accuracy of the ad copy. The filming, lighting sound and editing of the show is excellent. The interview is engaging and the ad copy is accurate as it does tell you exactly what you are receiving. That being said, I cannot recommend purchasing this unless you are extremely curious about magic performed in other parts of the world. I personally do not know anyone who would sit through this performance and find it entertaining.
