Wheabster's JOT

Wheabester

World Magic Shop

(Based on 1 review)
In the debut effect from Wheabster, Inked dots, drawn on a chosen playing card travel visually to the very centre of the card in an instant. It is then simply handed back to your spectator for examination.

Jot is an original method for a concept previously explored by Ollie G Smith.

PROS

This is Jordan Wheabster’s debut trick. Not bad.

In this routine, you have a card selected. The participant signs the card. You take the card back and draw four dots on the perimeter of the card. The card is show on both sides. With a little shake, the dots move from the perimeter of the card to the center of the card. The card is immediately handed out for inspection and can be given as a souvenir.

The routine is very visual and strong. The methods are very easy. The only real move you will need is a double lift.

I love the gimmick! It is simple and easy to make a replacement. He also teaches how to make a replacement gimmick. The gimmick in my packet was well made.

The routine can be done with audience members in a semi-circle around you. They can be to the side or front. You can’t have someone directly behind you given the handling he teaches. However, you could modify the handling and do the effect completely surrounded.

He also teaches some variations, such as having a single dot move from one spot on the card to another and how to do the effect with any card selected.

The effect is true to the ad copy.

CON

The main drawback is the gimmick I received is on blue back card stock. The problem with the blue back gimmick is that the black dots are not as visible on the blue back card as it would be on a red back card. The gimmick is simple enough to make so I could make a replacement gimmick if so desired.

If you want a more subtle effect, then the blue back version would be good. If you want a more eye-popping version, I suggest you make a red back version.

I am not aware of this being available in red back. The ad copy that I saw in a few different places only showed a blue back version.

VERDICT

Very nice routine, very simple and good gimmick. Well taught.
