Gypsy Balloon

Clark, Tony

Tony Clark

(Based on 1 review)
The classic Gypsy Thread has been elevated to new heights!

"This is one of the strongest pieces I've ever created. I just used it to close my hit show "Masters of Magic" in the 1200 seat Montbleu theater in Lake Tahoe!"
- Tony Clark

"After seeing Tony do his Gypsy Balloon Routine, I was blown away. Tony has found a way to motivate and elevate the classic and powerful Gypsy Thread trick into a truly powerful piece of magic and theater. His routine is actually too good to release and I wish I had the exclusive rights to it. This is something I would put into my show immediately and I predict a lot of people will do just that."
- Danny Cole

"The Gypsy Thread is a classic routine that needed a face-lift and Tony did it! It has such a visual impact for all audiences, both young and old. If you are looking for a NEW exciting routine, this is it! Silent or with music - the Gypsy Balloon is the way to go"
- Brent Geris

** Includes 30 feet of thread - (Helium and balloons not included)

Periodically a product appears on the market that is directly from the repertoire of a professional performer. Over my time as a magician I have learned to pay attention to such releases. After all, the material of professionals tend to be workers that are guaranteed to be audience pleasers. Tony Clark's Gypsy Balloon is just such a product.

The foundation of the effect is the classic Gypsy or Hindu Thread. The Gypsy or Hindu Thread is at least 400 years old, so a new presentation or method is always exciting. (See Gibeciere, Summer 2010, Volume 5, Number 2, page 138 for more details.)

In the Clark version, a string of a helium balloon is broken, rolled into a ball and placed on the remaining string on the balloon. A slight blow on the ball of string and the balloon rises, restoring the string as it goes. It's really quite a strong and visual effect. So much so, Clark closes his show with it.

Clark offers two presentations - one serious and the other humorous. It is here that I found the danger of Gypsy Balloon. It will be very tempting for some to just use one or both of Clark's presentations.

The effect is well explained and taught on a DVD. The issue I have with the DVD is the lack of a Play All menu option. After each segment, you return to the menu to select another segment. Included with the DVD is a sample of the string and a discount code to order more. You supply your own balloons and helium. A quick trip to your local party store will solve that.

This is a great version of the Gypsy Thread that is well suited for the family entertainer - if they write their own presentation. I would give it five stars if the DVD allowed for Play All.
