The Card College series of books are the books that I use most in my library. In my opinion, no better volumes can be found to compare with the clear inviting presentation, wonderful illustrations, and sheer depth of coverage that these books contain regarding close-up card magic. They are so nicely produced that you want to read them again and again. While beginners can start with volume 1, once you begin study you will most likely want the remaining volumes and it makes sense to buy the set as they flow so wonderfully together and build upon your foundation as you read and study each book. Roberto Giobbi is one of my magic heroes.

He is erudite, well read in the art and truly understands the magic of magic. It is also very clear he is an excellent teacher and takes pride in his ability to explain complex situations in a manner that is concise and accurate.

His Card College series has frequently been referred to as an up-date-version of Hugard and Bruae's "Royal Road to Card Magic". This rally does a disservice to both "Royal Road" and "Card College". I'd prefer to think of Mr. Giobbi's masterful series as more equivalent to Dr. Tarbell's opus. There is history, there is purpose and there is excellent writing (and great illustrations by Mr. Giobbi's talented wife)! There are also fabulous card tricks that utilize the sleights taught in the specific chapters.

An absolute newbie can pick up Volume 1 and get started. The instruction is that good. If same newbie spends time practicing, rehearsing and immersing into the instruction, said newbie will be an... [Read More]
