Overview

The Royal Scam by John Bannon and Big Blind Media is a great little packet trick if you wanted to do something a little bit more than a quickie but not too long either. Just about anything you get from the Bannon / BBM combination will serve you well. Typical of a Bannon style trick, it has moves but there are no knuckle busting moves that will make you regret the purchase. Like all Bannon releases the structure of the trick, the premise and logistics are all well thought out.

Effect

You take out several Ace of Spades and mention that people always ask “what do you do will all the extra cards? Well, this is a demonstration of what I do”. You the show nine Ace of Spades all with the same color backs. Through a small demonstration and explanation of card handling prowess, the cards are separated into two piles. One pile of Aces ends up having all different color backs and the second pile of Aces turns into a Royal Flush.

Method

The cards are all regular cards but through the handling, they are shown to be all blue backed Aces. Naturally, when regular cards are used there must be some sleight of hand involved. Fortunately for us Bannon enthusiasts, the handling is not too difficult. There are three main intermediate moves needed, the Hammon Count, The Elmsley Count and the Opec Count. All of these are within the realm of the average card enthusiast.

Product Quality

The cards provided are all Bicycle cards so there are no quality issues there. The video instructions are brief but thorough. Liam Montier explains the trick with no extraneous talk. The entire video is 7 minutes long and includes very brief instructions on each move. Although there is nothing wrong with the instructions I would have preferred the explanation by John Bannon. Not only is Bannon’s pace slower and more methodical by he usually dives into the theory and concepts of his creations which by themselves are interesting.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and the value is certainly there. If you like relatively simple plots without complicated procedures the Royal Scam will definitely suit you.
