Overview

Picture Consequences by Joel Dickenson is a clever, colorful and entertaining piece of mentalism. Based on matching books and games that are used by children, the premise is relatable and enjoyable for spectators of all ages and demographics. The spectators “build” a character from a selection of heads, bodies and legs. Their choices are seemingly free and the options are plentiful.

Effect

The performer takes out a small box which houses a child’s game. In the box are various heads, bodies and legs of numerous characters from people to animals. The spectator can choose between several of each as they assemble a character of their choosing. After they are done, the performer informs them that they have been influenced the entire time and producing a prediction of what they will do and they both match.

Method

The method starts off with a slight force which goes completely unnoticed and a multiple out for the reveal. The rules of the game which come on a preprinted page directs the spectator into what is seemingly a free choice of options. Subtle psychological direction, followed by adhering to the innocuous set of rules, narrows down the seemingly many options the spectator has. Even so, multiple outcomes can be had. Unfortunately, it cannot be performed twice for the same audience not because there is only one outcome but the revelation method would differ depending on the options chosen by the spectator.

Product Quality

The quality of this product is excellent. The playing “cards”, box and instruction sheet all look like something that would be purchased in a children’s’ toy store. The video is well filmed and the instructional is well paced and thorough. You will need to be aware of the various outcomes and how the reveal must be presented but there are visual cues on every component of the trick.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and this is a great casual piece of mentalism if you didn’t want to perform something “very heavy”. It is lighthearted and entertaining.
