Astor Mental

Astor

(Based on 1 review)
For this trick the magician uses a transparent perspex board, five E. S. P. cards with blue back and five E. S. P. cards with red back. Every blue backed card has its matching red backed card. You will have the same E. S. P. symbols on the faces of these cards. The magician slips the blue cards into their slots on the board in an order only he knows. The spectator chooses one by one, in which matching slot the red cards should go, but he only sees the back of the cards. When the magician turns the board around, the blue back and red back cards are in the same order (top to bottom). You can show the trick twice and the order of the cards won't be the same. The cards are not specially prepared.

I purchased Astor Mental and Astor Epic together. One might think that these two items are too expensive. That is relative. Value is realized if the props provide entertainment benefit to the magician. Both Astor Epic and Astor Mental provide great entertainment value to and for me and my audiences so I will not mark these items down because of price.

The description is provided for Astor Mental. It performs exactly as described. After exhibiting a clear Plexiglas frame with room for 10 cards the magi inserts five blue backed ESP cards in frames numbered 1 - 5 back out so the spectators can't see the faces. The spectator then shuffles the red backed ESP cards, and without looking at the faces hands them one at a time to the magi, who inserts them in frames 1 - 5 on the opposite side of the Plexiglas frame based on the spectator's instructions.. The spectator can change her or his mind as often as desired.

When the spectator is satisfied the magi turns the frame around with no strange moves. The order of the ESP cards matches exactly.

This looks effortless and is easy to do. It is inexplicable, and it can be repeated immediately with a differing order of the five cards. It can also be used as a test with the spectator only having the order coincide for one or two of the cards until she or he is put under a spell. She or he then gets all in the same order.

The prop is light weight, sturdy, packs flat, is attractive, and can be used close up or on the stage. It can be used with one or five spectators. I love this prop and this effect, It is my go-to effect using ESP cards. Even the 10 cards are well-constructed and durable.

I have one small performance issue. I sometimes have a problem easily inserting the cards into the frame. But that is my problem. I am sure that practice would overcome this problem. It is not a reason to reduce rating points.

The prop seems so simple and transparent and the action is all so straightforward and open that there seems to be no way to effect this miracle and yet you get a 100%bmatch each time, or as often as you like.

The ease of making the magic happen allows the performer to fully focus on the presentation. Astor Mental has become one of my favorite effects. It as five star piece of magic. I am glad that it is expensive. That means that it is mot seen everywhere.
