Levitator

Andrew Mayne

(Based on 1 review)
Andrew Mayne, creator of Illusion EFX and Gut Buster, presents a new DVD dedicated to the art of levitation.

Including five levitations for the stage and street; Andrew teaches practical methods for defying gravity that will leave your audiences spellbound. The levitations featured on the DVD include:

Levitator - Stand on a chair and float several feet off the floor, to the side and then glide gently to the ground.

UP - A baffling effect where you float up to a chair and back down making the audience wonder if you levitated or slowed down time. Makes a great emcee bit.

Flight - Put on a cape and float in the air like a superhero.

The Anti-Gravity Machine - An impromptu effect using a sheet of newspaper you can perform at a party to convince your friends you know an arcane science secret that allows you to defy gravity.

Ultimate Levitation - An easy to build stage illusion that allows you to openly levitate without any cover.
B In this DVD Andrew shows his favorite methods for levitating in a variety of situations from the street to the stage and everywhere in between.

Running Time Approximately 45 min

Random I-Tunes Song of The Moment: Leader of The Pack by Twister Sister

Twister Sister is a great segue into an Andrew Mayne effect. His website is Weird Things . . . so "weird" - "twisted" what's the difference. If you've read my past reviews of Mayne's material, you'll find that his material, for me, is hot or cold . . . not much in between. This one certainly leans much more toward the hot side.

For $20.00 bucks you get a well produced (like pretty much all of Mayne's products) DVD that can be a good reference for multiple levitation effects. This could be a particularly valuable resource for you if you're not familiar with any levitation techniques. This is a good starting point.

You'll learn several different ideas, some more practical than others . . . some more impromptu than others, but they're all pretty decent, plus they're taught in great detail. The only complaint I really have about this DVD is that the Ultimate Levitation, while a great technique and method, was very misleading in the trailer. In the trailer they show Mayne performing this in an environment that we would refer to, in today's lingo, as "the streets." Thus when I got the DVD, I was fully expecting a levitation where both feet clearly come off the ground (as in the demo) that could be done in the streets.

Well, this effect is very much not for the out doors. It's very much a stage thing. In fact, you not only need a stage and some cover, but you need an assistant as well. I felt quite a bit mislead on that one point. However, combine the good with the bad . . . the solid ideas - even the misleading one is solid - plus the low price, and you have a definite gem with 3.5 stars (took a pretty big hit for the misleading ad).
