Effect

You show a mysterious timepiece. An audience member secretly sets it to any time in the future. While your back is turned the timepiece is placed inside The Time Machine, an opaque black box by your spectator. It is then handed back to you while you back is still turned away from them. You turn around with the box still closed then travel into the past and divulge time they had chosen moments earlier!

Method

Any of you that have been in magic for some time will recognize this as the ‘old’ Color Vision effect. The principle is the same, it has just been updated. This is a very easy effect to learn and do, no tricky or complicated slights of moves to accomplish. The move(s) you have to do are very natural and can be related to the same spectator immediately, no set up required. Angles are important and once you learn this one it will be very apparent to you.

Product Quality

Everything you need to perform this one is included but is made out of plastic. It is durable but again it is plastic so depending on how you store and handle it, it should last you for years and many performances. I still own Color Vision which is YEARS old and is in great shape.

Everything that is advertised is what you get and what you can do with it. The online tutorial is perfect, great filming and sound.

Suggestions

The Vault is great for a give-away at parties for the birthday child, part of a loot bag you can use to up-sell your birthday package, back of room sales or utilize as part of a package when teaching magic classes if you do that sort of thing.

Overview

The Time Machine by Apprentice Magic truly is a time machine. Why so? It is because you will be performing a classic of magic which has been generally ignored by the magic community as of late. This effect originally known as Color Vision Cube has been viewed over the years as old hat, hackneyed and passé. But yet, over the last year three new versions of this classic has been released including this one. Disregarding the fact that this is an inexpensive plastic prop, the reason could be that it is not about the prop, it is about the presentation. It’s time to test your mettle, carry this clever version with you and perform it.

Effect

The performer produces a small black box and introduces it as a time machine. Inside the machine is a small clock. A spectator is asked to set the clock to a time (there is only one hand) and place it back in the box and replace the cover. The box is completely and unequivocally opaque. But yet, the performer can determine what time is set on the clock. This can be repeated time and time again (pun intended).

Method

If one is familiar with the handling of the Color Vision Cube, this is no different. The box can be handled by the smallest of hands and is a perfect size for a child getting started in magic. The method is very simple and with practice one can develop alternative ways to facilitate the move. The only condition one must be aware of are angles. This particular effect works best with no one to either side.

Product Quality

Realistically, we are talking about a plastic magic trick. However, is that the only criteria one should judge by? How about premise, scripting and instruction? Well, Apprentice Magic has you covered. In other cheap versions of this trick you would probably get typed instructions on a miniscule piece of paper that you may be able to understand. You don’t have to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars on magic to start out. The Apprentice Magic series is the perfect starting point to develop. your presentational skills and learn what is most important in magic, and that is to be entertaining.
