You display your ESP ability testing deck to your spectator, explaining that the symbols and random numbers featured on the cards are used to gauge the extrasensory abilities of members of the public.

For the initial test the spectator freely selects five cards from the pack. Despite the hands off, uber clean selection process you clearly demonstrate that you predicted not only which five cards they would select... but in which order too!

So far, so incredible, however that is just phase one. The true moment of astonishment is about to land!!!

You draw attention back to the random numbers printed on each ESP card and ask the spectator to look at the five cards they selected and add their numbers together. The spectator has now created a totally random number. Indeed you clearly show the remaining ESP cards and highlight the fact that had they picked ANY other card, the total would have been different.

Which makes it all the more incredible when you prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you predicted the EXACT number they would arrive at! Utterly impossible - utterly mindblowing.

ESP By The Numbers is totally self-working. No sleight of hand. No gimmicks. No sticky stuff. Just a brain frying piece of magic that you'll want to perform again and again and again!

Overview

ESP by the Numbers is another killer release by John Bannon and Big Blind media. As with any John Bannon release you will get the entire presentation given to you tied up with a pretty bow (take that figuratively, not literally). ESP by the Numbers is a nice opener if you would like to do something other than using regular playing cards. If you take mentalism seriously, perhaps you may want to pass on this one, but if you would like a light hearted, easy to do trick which will engage your audience than you will definitely like to add this to your arsenal.

Effect

The performer takes out a packet of ESP cards and offers to test out the participant’s Extra Sensory Perception. A card is placed on the table which features the five ESP symbols as reference. The symbol cards are laid out face down in a row and the participant chooses from the row, which card to push forward. This is repeated four more times. There is no force of any kind. After the selections are made the cards are turned over. Although seemingly random, the order of the ESP cards matches the order of the symbols on the reference card. If that isn’t impressive enough, there are numbers on each card and when added the total tells you how strong their ESP is. As it turns out, their ESP was right on.

Method

ESP by The Numbers uses special cards in a special sequence. The methodology uses a clever revision of the Matrix Force which John Bannon coins Matrix Reloaded. The trick is completely self-working which leaves the performer lots of room to embellish the performance. As long as the sequence of cards are set up beforehand there should be no hitches.

Product Quality

Without question, team Bannon and BBM will deliver an absolutely bullet proof product. True to form John Bannon always creates very commercial and doable magic. BBM has really stepped up their game with high quality and watchable magic. The performance and explanation is thorough and clear. As far as the set, photography, lighting and sound, BBM has been delivering a high end and attractive product. The backs of the ESP cards are not what is on the trailer, for my tastes I prefer what has been delivered, which is a more traditional look. In addition, the download teaches the Matrix reloaded force using and ordinary deck of cards. So if you wanted to perform this trick without carrying the ESP cards you can.

Ad Copy Integrity

As stated, the effect will appear as stated in the ad copy to the audience. When it goes to releases by Bannon you will always get as stated.

Final Thoughts

Although these ESP cards come unmarked, because of the back design used, you can easily mark them yourself. If you do, you can now use them for various other effects that are out on the market. As long as you do ESP by the Numbers first, you can then do a small set, just with the one packet of cards.
