Anton James is a sharp guy. What he and Jeff Kaylor have done with the Magic Estate has been great. I feel like the magic discussed during this lecture was really great. That said there was a little bit of a vague area that was never addressed directly. Most of the magic was some sort of a dealer item. Granted, much of it would be fairly easy to create yourself, Anton never really gave permission to do that. He also never said that he would rather you didn't make the stuff yourself. I'm going to assume that he's okay with you making your own version of his stuff even though you can buy it at his magic shop.

Number Pad: This is one of the only routines that he goes over that is not a "dealer item". It is a good opener for a stage mentalist. I used this exact routine in my classroom (I daylight as a French teacher) soon after I watched the lecture. The reactions I got ranged from hardly impressed to completely killer. Really it is a combination of classic mental gags and effects that work together to make a fun routine. Nothing's new here (I'm pretty sure each "effect" is taught Mark Wilson's Complete Course) but it is all tied up in a neat bow and a slick presentation that is completely practical, all you need is a marker and a pad of paper. Everyone in the audience is completely involved and you don't have to bring anyone up on stage.

MSP: This really is a neat concept but it is one that many mentalists will be familiar with. This is a pack of cards with symbols on each card rather than numbers or letters. These aren't ESP symbols either, they are kind of like clip art cards (although it's almost insulting to call it clip art, he had them specially designed by a tattoo artist). He explains the secret and I'm sure you could go make your own, but I was left wanting his manufactured deck. The cards are plastic, so if you are table hopping you don't have to worry about sticky fingers. The pictures were beautiful, its features are impressive. I don't know if I could ever find the justification to use it but as a product it looks very slick.

The Pro Board: This one is going to sound almost silly, but it is really a great idea. It's a board. That's it. Once again, it made me want to go get his rather than making my own. Even as I type this that sounds weird to say. He created a few routines that allow the magician or mentalist to openly switch a prediction. He uses a very funny book test and an idea for add a number but I think you could do a bunch of other stuff. In all reality you could make your own, his were made a certain size with a certain material but I'm sure you could approximate it. That said I'm not sure if he really wants you to do that or not. I kind of think he wants you to purchase his product.

He throws out some other ideas, including his networking business card idea that is for sell on Magic Estate. He goes into some great information on branding and character as well.

Overall it was a very enjoyable lecture. I liked the opening pad routine the most and would give the other stuff a try as well. none of it completely knocked my socks off but it was very solid. If he's okay with you making your own props I think this was a great lecture. If not, it was just okay.
