REVIEW

The effect is cute. The methods are solid. I’m giving it a rating of three stars because the trailer implies you are going to learn the full effect that starts with a drawing that morphs and disappears, reappears in an envelope, and then the envelope turns into a rose.

The final transposition from red envelope to rose, is no where to be found on the DVD.

On the positive side, he talks about how this effect started with hand drawings on blank cards. He also challenges the viewers to use blank cards and create their own drawings, stories, and routines. So, if you find the routine and the pre-printed cards to be too “cutesy”, perhaps you could create your own routine using the methods taught.

CAUTION

It boils my blood when a trailer implies you will learn something that isn’t taught. To the best of my knowledge, the final transposition from red envelope to red rose is never taught.

VERDICT

Even though I gave this a three star rating, I don’t think it is a bad effect. If you think you might have a use for it, the teaching is good and the method is not bad either.

Patrick Kun’s share the love hit the internet by storm a few years back. The story is that he made a small magic routine that he could share with his then girlfriend who lived far away. My first reaction was that this was going to be a super cheesy routine designed to pick up on women. It was market as such but I don’t feel like this is all that it is good for. Read on to see my ideas.

Simple Handling: Three blank cards are displayed are pulled out of an envelope, the fourth has a picture of a girl holding a heart. Through a series of color changes a boy enters the image and gives her a flower. She is shown to be happy and she vanishes only to appear in the envelope which was shown as empty seconds earlier. The heart is no longer in the picture but with a shake a chocolate heart is produced from the envelope.

It sounds complex but it is really a series of simple tricks that all finish with 2 powerful kickers. This is the simple handling but it will still take some practice, it is by no means self working but I was able to get it down in just a few minutes.

Advanced Handling: The main difference is that this uses one card held by the magician that makes multiple changes. It is a bit more difficult for sure with more angle sensitivity. It has less of a packet trick feel in my opinion. I actually like both routines equally but I think this one would be better suited for a camera rather than a live performance.

This is a really fun effect that allows the magician to be very personal. I think I will use this as a way to show how my wife and I met. I could see this working for an anniversary party, wedding or of course Valentines day. I think it’s kinda silly to do magic in order to flirt with women and I’d recommend not using this trick of that purpose. This is a great little trick.
