Malini Egg Bag

Bob White

(Based on 1 review)
"When it comes to performing magic's classic Egg Bag, Bob White is the MASTER. In this video Bob teaches the techniques, management and psychology to effectively perform the Malini Egg Bag. He reveals information that has previously been shared with only a select few. If you are considering a routine with the Egg Bag, or if it's in your current repertoire, Bob's approach to this classic of magic will be invaluable to you. Bob certainly helped me, and he can help you as well."

"I was astounded the first time I saw Bob White perform his unique and astonishing version of the Egg Bag. This is the Real Work from a modern master, who - like John Thompson and Harry Riser - carries the magical torch of the Egg Bag directly from its origins, from Max Malini to Charlie Miller to Bob, and now to us. I have but one complaint: I am thrilled to have Bob's work; I just hate sharing it with everyone else!"
- Jamy Ian Swiss

"Ignore the fact that Bob white is an ornery Texas cuss, when he picks up that Egg Bag, he creates exquisite magic that will take your breath away."
- Max Maven

"Bob White reveals his most cherished secret in magic! His entire underground Egg Bag routine - explained with all its subtleties and touches - is taught in complete detail. On this video you will learn the REAL WORK from the master himself. This Egg Bag routine is the best I have ever seen. I predict Bob's handling will once again start an Egg Bag revolution among performers every where. Thanks Bob for making this video on a true claissic of magic!"

Bob White, a talented magician from Texas, has been performing magic for decades, and counts among his mentors some of the greatest magicians of this century. His repertoire includes a number of classics of magic, which he performs brilliantly. In recent years Mr. White has began producing educational DVD’s, covering palming cards, the cups and balls, the linking rings, and the torn and restored napkin. Every DVD he has produced has received rave reviews that speak to the level of detail and perfection that Mr. White brings to these effects.

The Malini Egg Bag DVD is no exception.

While Mr. White was inspired by the method taught to him by his mentor, Charlie Miller, over decades of performance he has altered the approach quite a bit. His handling is very deceptive, entertaining, flows wonderfully as a routine, and can be performed for an audience of almost any size and age. It’s obvious that he has performed the effect thousands of times and the level of detail and bits of business covered on the DVD reflect that experience.

Mr. White is known for the thoroughness and detail of his explanations, and this DVD is no exception. He clearly and succinctly explains every phase and every moment of the routine, covering the more complicated sections multiple times to insure clarity. He covers more than just the method and performance, though. He covers details that include preparing the egg for performance, as well as maintaining the bag, including what not to do. He also covers in depth his script for the effect, as well as audience management, which is a critical component of a routine of this type. This level of detail is clearly born of experience and is invaluable to the performer intending to add this routine to his or her repertoire.

I have only one complaint, and it’s an unusual one. I wish Mr. White had touched a bit more on why he routined the Malini Egg Bag the way he has, on why he altered the routine he learned from Charlie Miller. As he has performed the effect thousands of times, I would have loved to been told some of what he has learned over time and how it affected how he performs the Egg Bag. This is a trifling complaint, really, as few products today include such detail. However, the reason other products don’t include such detail is that most effects being taught haven’t been performed by their teacher for 40 years. That level of experience and knowledge is truly a treasure, and I am always greedy for more.

The Egg Bag is undoubtedly a classic of magic, performed by many of the greatest magicians of the last century. A large part of its staying power is certainly the simplicity. An egg is placed in a simple black bag, whereupon it continually disappears and reappears in a baffling manner. I first saw it performed by none other than John Thompson himself at a magic convention in Colorado. Unfamiliar with the method at the time, he absolutely destroyed me. He systematically took away every conceivable place to hide the egg and I was left absolutely blown away. Charlie Miller taught John Thompson that method, and he also taught it to Bob White. Bob White then took that masterful approach, performed it thousands of times, during which time it evolved into the method taught on this DVD. The end result is a master class in extraordinary magic.

(One final note. I am a proponent of learning as much about a routine as possible when preparing to perform it. As such, in addition to recommending this DVD, I also recommend the Egg Bag video, part of the Greater Magic Video Library Teach-In Sessions. It records the performances and methods of Martin Lewis, Tom Mullica, Billy McComb and Charlie Miller. Not only does it allow you to see where Mr. White’s routine started from, but it also gives you 4 different, professional, world-class approaches to the effect. Stevens Magic Emporium still produces it and I highly recommend studying it in addition to Bob White’s DVD.)
