David Kemsley's brilliant mind keeps surprising us!

Effect

A brand new pencil sharpens itself instantly and just so you do not hurt yourself you can turn it back to a new un-sharpened pencil. How about that?

Very easy to learn and perform. Blunt does almost all the work for you!

You can use it in trade shows, street magic, or kid shows. The possibilities are endless!

The effect needs a gimmick, and the instructional booklet teaches you in detail how to perform the trick and how to construct the gimmick at home.

Get now one of the most original ideas we have ever seen!

Bummer!

I normally love what I call “magical happenings” -- things that just seem to happen during a performance, mostly out of convenience to the magician. I was all fired up to love this one.

Looking at my 1 out of 5 rating, you've probably guessed that I don't love it.

The “effect” isn't bad. I thought it was going to look like crap, but it's actually not bad... at least in the right lighting.

The problem is with the logic. Maybe I should list some of the questions that entered my mind:

  • Why are you using a wooden pencil? Isn't this the 21st century? I use one in my shop, but that's just old habit. What exactly do you need one in a magic routine?

  • If you've brought a pencil, why isn't it sharpened? Are you that unprepared?

  • Why do you want to stick the pencil in your hand? Maybe if you're working a “modern primitive” gathering, but not at any restaurant you'd find me dining.

  • If you can now use it to write, why make it blunt again?

I actually have an answer to the last question. Because you can't write with it! The method makes that impossible.

There is one good thing that has come out of this product. It made me think of a more practical routine. Who knows, maybe I'll market it...
