Overview

One might think the Koran Deck is so named because it was invented by Al Koran but it actually is a direct copy of a forcing deck of Audley Walsh’s which appeared in The Jinx in 1938. Al Koran popularized this deck in his performance so it became associated with him. By whatever name it is called The Koran Deck project by Big Blind Media is a utility deck that allows you to “read” one or several spectators minds.

Effect

You show a spread deck of cards to a spectator(s). They are asked to look at the faces and quickly remember one card that they see. With a series of logical statements, the performer divines the card they are thinking of. The Koran deck can be performed for one to six participants. The Koran Deck I able to be performed in basically any venue from casual walk around to stage although it is most impressive in front of a larger audience.

Method

The Koran Deck utilizes a bank of card repeated several times to make of the size of a regular deck of cards. The bank of cards is made up of red and black card and all suits. The cards used have distinct differences that will allow you to narrow down the card with a logical sequence of “fishing” questions which delivered with skill and confidence will not appear as if you are drawing out information to figure the card out. There are a couple of linguistic techniques which needs to be polished well for this to work.

Product Quality

The deck itself is made up of Bicycle card stock so there are no quality issues there. The 28 minute download covers a short history of the deck, basic construction, basic pumping techniques, a couple of false shuffles and three routines. The basic Koran Deck routine is covered of course, David Hoy’s tossed out deck and a contribution from Stephen Tucker where the revelation is revealed in an interesting way.

Ad Copy Integrity

The Koran Deck has been a staple of magic and mentalism for time immemorial. The project delivers as stated and just about anything you purchased released by Big Blind Media is a good value. I do feel that this being a project was an opportunity to bring more than three routines to light especially when two are already well known and it fell short in that respect.
