Effect

The Magician takes an unassuming stack of four nickels and covers them with a brass lid “your Vault”. When the lid is removed, magically the four nickels (20 cents) have now changed into four dimes (40 cents) automatically and instantaneously doubling the money. The dime and the brass lid can all be examined by the spectator.

Method

This is the classic and age old, tried and true “Nickels to Dimes” which I am sure most if not all us Magicians owned and some time when we were starting out in magic. It is self-working and angle proof, the brass lid (The Vault) does all the work for you, all you have to do is perform it using the story line taught in the online tutorial or make up your own story.

Product Quality

Because it is made out of brass (polished and really expensive looking) it will last you forever. It is small enough to keep in your pocket at all times ready to perform. If over the years it becomes scratched or tarnished/dull looking, simply shine it up with some ‘Brasso' to make it look new again.

Ad Copy Integrity

What is advertised is exactly who it will do. Where it says “all props included” the brass lid/gimmick is included but please note that you will have to provide your own nickels and dimes. You will be given a link to the online video tutorial which is excellent - professionally filmed, clear and very detailed.

Final Thoughts

Even though you may be a pro, this is a great little effect to carry around with you to perform anywhere, anytime. It is great gift or purchase for someone just starting in magic as it is very easy and quick to learn so they can focus of their patter and presentation.

Suggestions

The Vault is great for a give-away at parties for the birthday child, part of a loot bag you can use to up-sell your birthday package, back of room sales or utilize as part of a package when teaching magic classes if you do that sort of thing.

Overview

The Vault by Apprentice Magic truly is something you can bank on. The Vault is another release from Apprentice Magic whose focus is to bring classics back to the performing arena. This effect originally known as Nickels to Dimes has been largely ignored by seasoned performers, but yet the effectiveness of simple tricks like this are underestimated. The easy setup and self-working nature of The Vault will allow you the freedom on focusing on what is the most important part of a trick and that is, presentation.

Effect

The performer produces a small brass cap. It looks very ordinary and unassuming. He then says this is a small old time vault where not only did it protect one’s money but allowed it to increase two fold. To demonstrate, he places a stack of nickels on the table. The stack of nickels is then covered by The Vault, and viola, when the brass cap is lifted a stack of dimes are where the stack of nickels once was. This is just one of a couple of presentations one can do with The Vault.

Method

If one is familiar with the handling of the Nickel to Dimes trick you will understand that this is a self-working trick. The brass cap does all the work for you. The simplicity of the gimmick allows you the flexibility of presenting the effect which fits your style. The Vault can be handled by the smallest of hands and is a perfect size for a child getting started in magic. There aren’t any bad angles for this particular effect but one will have to reset this one in private.

Product Quality

The Vault is made out of metal. It seems extremely sturdy and I can’t foresee it ever failing or breaking. You will get The Vault, another accessory to reset the vault and downloadable instructions. You will have to provide your own coins. In other cheap versions of this trick you would probably get typed instructions on a miniscule piece of paper that you may be able to understand. With The Vault you will not only get the prop but a downloadable video instruction featuring Javier Fuemayor, Murphy’s Magic new spokesperson. Javier brings this trick to a new level. Ever excited and well spoken, Javier teaches you the routine and a premise to hang it on. Filmed on a beautiful set in High Definition, Javier brings what is needed most in magic; enthusiasm. This is well worth the purchase just to watch Javier.

The product delivers all that is posted. Apprentice Magic has the right idea which is bringing back tired and worn out classics and revitalizing them and breathing new life in to this old friends.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars on magic to start out. The Apprentice Magic series is the perfect starting point to develop. your presentational skills and learn what is most important in magic, and that is to be entertaining.
