Headline predictions can be accomplished in many ways, many of them complicated and using expensive apparatus, and others , like this one, simple, ingenious and cheap. This is the effect: The Mentalist visits the Editor of his local paper and proclaims that he ,the mentalist, has predicted the headlines of the paper’s edition for the following week. A wine bottle covered with strips of gummed paper and with the cork firmly sealed in position with plenty of sealing wax, contains the prediction. The bottle is packed into a small box or crate which, in turn, is also tied up and sealed. Both the labels on the bottle and the crate are signed by the Editor and possibly other committee men and the Crate is left in their care until the day on which the relevant newspaper is due to come out. When that day comes, the Mentalist, Editor and committee assemble at the newspaper offices. The seals on the box are checked and then the box is opened and the bottle is removed. The Editor confirms that the seals are unbroken. The bottle is placed on some cloth or old papers and smashed with a hammer. The Editor himself removes the prediction from the broken bottle, opens it and reads the contents. Sure enough the headline written on the prediction matches the newspaper headline! This is the sort of publicity stunt that will bring you the sort of coverage that can help you immensely with new bookings.
