Overview

Materialize is a two-phase playing card reveal with a twist. The Magician has a Spectator select a card from the deck and then asks them to concentrate on it. The Magician takes a single card out of their pocket and displays a card just showing the back of it. Now in a very visual way the name of the card starts to materialize like if it was magically painted by a ghost. To finish this revelation the card is shaken and then turns into the selected card which if you want can be handed out for examination. This is a very visually stunning effect.

Effect

Method

Your Spectator picks a card that will have to be forced (no big surprise here) using any method you want and then the gimmick will do all the work for you as shown in the trailer. If you want to hand out the card for examination, you will have to do a switch (again no surprise here). Don’t worry, the video tutorial will teach you both moves if you don’t already know how to do them. The gimmick resets instantly.

Product Quality

You will receive a vey well made custom made gimmicked card either a KD or QC depending on the one you purchase. It is ready to go right out of the package and is constructed with Bicycle brand cards which as you know are of great quality. You will also receive 50 cm of elastic thread should you need to repair the gimmick if it breaks. Complete details of the repair are covered in the Vimeo online instructional video which is just over 20 minutes long. Anthony’s voice is dubbed in English but no need for concern, all is very well produced. Please note here that I have used my gimmick about a dozen times and the gimmick is starting to show some wear and tear as a faint line down the center length of the card. If you hold it far enough away from the spectator and move it a little it should be just fine.

Ad Copy Integrity

Well, a few things going on here. Firstly, the ad says "Someone selects or thinks of a card” which is not accurate at all, you will have to force a card, no ’thinking’ involved. Secondly, the trailer does not show the complete routine and neither does the tutorial teach it to you. Once the card is selected by the Spectator ‘IF' you want to produce the gimmicked card from your pocket, you will first have to return their selected card to the deck, do a switch and then palm off the gimmick in order to produce it from your pocket. In the trailer, the segment ends with the card value appearing on the back of the card then instantly changing into their selection. If you want to hand it out there is a lot more you will have to do however it is taught in the tutorial.

Final Thoughts

The gimmick will start showing some wear and tear as a faint line down the center length of the card but if you hold it far enough away from the spectator and move it a little it should be just fine. Due to the construction of the gimmick and this wear, I really don’t think it would be that good for close-up, prepare to leave some extra distance between you and your Spectator. I would suggest this would be better suited for small parlor shows and social media video performances. One last thing that could be a deal breaker for some, this effect because of the gimmick’s design, it is made for right-handed people. If you really want to learn this one, you will have your work cut out for you. For the comet and ingenuity I will rate this a 5 star but am deducting 2 points for points raised in Ad integrity and a minor quality issue
