Routine idea:

Imagine showing four cards. Your spectator is asked to mix them facedown (so nobody knows the order) they place any one of the cards into any of the colored envelopes and then mix the envelopes and deal them out.

Now you state that each card has a prize and whatever prize they have received they can genuinely take home.

Spectator number one opens their envelope and reveals they have won a lollipop. You reach in to your pocket and hand them a lollipop.

Spectator number two opens their envelope to reveal they have won your business card. You take a business card out of your wallet and hand it to them.

Spectator number three opens their envelope to reveal they have a chance of winning

Overview

The Bank Night routine has been a polarizing effect. Some performers revel in the fact that they “got over” on the spectators and other performers feel it’s a “sucker” effect and is insulting at best. In addition, the routine typically requires some sleight for it to work, a switch at the worst moment of the routine or use of gimmicks. Volition by Steve Cook might just be the answer to all performer’s needs.

Effect

Volition is a routine whereby several audience members are asked to choose between a number of envelopes. One of the envelopes has a valuable prize inside (usually a large denomination bill). The participants all have multiple opportunities to switch envelopes if they choose. Ultimately, they all end up with an empty envelope and the performer ALWAYS walks away with the prize.

Method

There is no “method” as we typically would define method, which makes its “method” so interesting. Other than similar routines there are no switches, awkward moments, sleights or secrets gimmicks. The method surprisingly enough is just observation and audience management. The envelopes can all be inspected and the performer can do it close up because there will never be anything to hide.

Product Quality

What you will get are two sets of four different colored envelopes, one set is poker card sized and the second one a bit larger. You will also get some double blank playing cards to write on. All of these are ordinary and easily replaceable when they get worn or dirty. The included DVD features many routines which will not only explain the methodology behind the effect but offers up several routines which tempers the “sucker effect” results of most bank night performances. The video is thorough and well shot.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate. Volition can be done walk around, parlour or stage. Its natural handlings should fly by just about every participant and viewer. With the routines’ built in time misdirection the performance should go by without raising suspicion.
