At The Table Experience Eric Jones (Jan 20, 2016)

Penn & Teller Fooler and co-founder of Lost Art Magic, Eric Jones brings us his brand new lecture! Eric's new lecture isn't filled with knuckle busting technique but rather practical and potent magic that can be mastered in minutes. However, the real secrets to this All New At The Table Live Lecture are discovered as Eric reveals his thoughts on magic performance, theory and structure. Come join us and start the year off with an Experience that will fill your goodie bag with magic from the top pros! Check out a list of effects which Eric taught during his lecture!

Smoke - Your hands are shown empty and from thin air produce a sharpie. Then you tell the spectator to use their imagination as you pretend to draw paper and tobacco in thin air. Once you do you roll the imaginary cigarette light it and produce smoke from thin air.

Eric Collectors Routine - 4 Kings are shown as 3 cards are signed and selected and lost into the deck. The signed cards then appear between the Kings.

Performing With Rhythm - Eric shares what it takes to perform smoothly and in rhythm which is very important for all performers.

Hellbound Spellbound - Our favorite Trick of the Lecture! A SUPER VISUAL multiple phase coin routine that should go straight into any coin magicians repertoire.

Self-Working Coin Trick - A copper coin and silver coin are shown and held one in each hand and visually change places multiple times! Looks like a camera trick!

Eric's Creative Process - Eric shares what it takes to create your own effects.

Impromptu coin and Hat - You borrow the spectators hat and a coin. The coin in placed in the hand and appears inside the had that has been on the spectators head the whole time!

Ishkabibble Sandwhich - One of David Blaines favorite effects that Eric performs. A card Visually appears between two kings! This is one you'll have to see to believe.

Overview

At The Table Experience Eric Jones is a 2 hour download of magic performed and explained by the incomparable Eric Jones. Jones hails from the Philly area and I have had the pleasure of not only seeing him lecture live but I have been in his company when he wasn’t performing and his skill as a magician is only surpassed by his genuinely polite demeanor. Jones is a highly skilled and practiced magician. If you are buying this download to watch how a precision oriented performer works, it will give you an insight. However, if you are buying this to learn his tricks then you have a lot of work cut out for you.

Effect

There are several effects on this download sprinkled amongst his theories on magic. Each trick is covered thoroughly which limits how much is actually taught on this download. The tricks range from a pen production, to cards to coins. There is definitely a potpourri of magic to please just about anyone’s interest.

Method

The tricks taught are visually stunning but unfortunately require gimmicks for almost all of them. If you have gimmicks such as Smoke by Alan Rorrison and specially made coins, then you will like to watch how he puts it all together. The card trick shown uses cuts and flourishes not within the scope of most performers. I have seen Jones’s hands in person and at the lecture he makes the cuts and moves look easy but in reality unless you have huge hands, I don’t think you will be successful.

Product Quality

The performances and explanations are all covered thoroughly. The host in this lecture allowed the performer to talk without constant interruption which I appreciate. Although enough was covered in the 2 hours, the lecture seemed unplanned. After the opening and explanation, he followed with a complex card trick. After that he took questions and performed what was asked from online spectators. It didn’t appear he had a prepared lecture.

Ad Copy Integrity

I think the ad copy, although explicitly stating what was going to be taught in very misleading. Most of the effects taught required special gimmicks. In addition, it states “no knuckle busting moves”. Are you kidding! The cut needed for the first card trick took 10 minutes to explain. I would not recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have years of experience and an arsenal of gimmicks.

Final Thoughts

Eric Jones is a great performer and magician but leave this one to when you are ready to spend months of practice.
