Overview

Self Levitation by Shin Lim, Jose Morales and Paul Harris is an interesting DVD to purchase if you are curious about levitating and can’t find any information through other sources like the internet. Scant at best, this short DVD is very basic and will give you the necessary material to get you started on your quest to defy gravity.

Effect

The performer is at a setting where he wants to impress but cards, coins and safety pins aren’t impactful enough. So what should one do? Levitate off the ground, of course. Defying gravity has been a quest of man for time immemorial. With this DVD you can learn how the basic levitation work and if it is practical for you.

Method

The main method of course is by using your own physiology to create an illusion of levitating. Two methods are discussed and one requires to modify a pair of lightweight shoes. Naturally like any other illusion this one is very sensitive to angles and that alone makes it a very limited effect.

Product Quality

The DVD is shot in a completely white environment which eliminates any visual noise. Two methods are discussed and the entire DVD is 20 minutes long. The twenty minutes includes an introduction, history of each illusion, method, angles, psychology additional tips and construction of gimmick if needed. The performance is shot only in the studio and there is no attempt to embellish on this topic passed the basic information. The DVD is fairly well shot and the explanations are brief but thorough.

Ad Copy Integrity

Naturally, the ad copy is typically written to discuss the attributes of the material. The ad copy insinuates that this is the very levitation that David Blaine used on his special, I’m not sure if that is accurate. The rest of the ad copy is fairly to the point.

Final Thoughts

One must be fairly fit to perform these levitations convincingly which is why my recommendation is to leave this to younger individuals that are not only more agile but are typically in social settings where this type of magic might impress.
