I make a trip to Florida (ormond beach area) about every year with my family. I stop in the shop 2-3 times a week. Yes they do get busy on the phone and with customers. My last experience there was pretty good. I had a list of items I wanted to purchase, some were in stock some were not. Harry and his staff helped with choosing some other items to fit my style of magic. this is my go to shop 1st then I have some others I visit. Harry pulled me aside and gave me a huge break on a certain effect, he was doing a demo for a crowd of folks, I stood back from the crowd of guest and observed and was sold. Everyplace has its share of problems from time to time, but my online and in store purchase have come off with out a hitch.

At the IBM convention in Texas, I asked about a cut no cut sisours, they did not have it with them but said I could pay for it and it would be sent. OK sound goo, when i got the it, it was a pice of junk. This year in Norfolk I told daytona magic what I thought about it and was told yes it is junk we trying to get rid of them, then he tried to sell me a $450.00 set.

We are all characters!!! Every geeky, freckled, pimpled kid that ever attempted to "fool" someone with a trick is a character. Every magic dealer that sells that kid a trick is a character. I used to work for Bob Little, what a character... Harry Allen is Harry Allen!!! In a age where with a click of a mouse another Brick and Mortar shop vanishes I have to cheer on the characters that show up every day and sell packets tricks to "future characters". Thank GOD for characters, on both sides of the glass display cabinet (with packet tricks inside)...

I have met Harry Allen and I attend the Daytona Magic convention every year. Harry is a wonderful person that will show you any trick and answer any of your questions. Most professional magicians are not even approachable. Not Harry!! In this day of "online" magic shops, it is difficult to compete having a "brick and mortar" store. Harry strives to bring magic into everyone's life and that is not easy. I have been to his store and it is phenomenal! It is unfortunate that some of the patrons have had poor experiences. But it just goes to show you that if someone is happy with a place they may tell one or two people, if they are unhappy the well tell 10 people. Kudos Harry!!

I too had a similar problem as another reviewer. I made a fairly pricey purchase at their convention. and when I tried practicing it, could not get it to function correctly. I called and told them I would be at an upcoming convention that Harry was at, and they said take it and harry would exchange it. It knew? nothing about the exchange and took it to be "fixed". After 3 months of not a crumb of communication, followed by I am having another guy look at it, I sending it back to India, I finally had to settle for a different product, that retailed for 1/4 of my original purchased product. That was after my constant calling and pressuring.

I lose respect for any businessman who degrades his competition with a statement like..... "If you had bought this at **** **** place he would hang up on you and not do anything" It was after I mentioned you have my money and my prop. I have nothing, but the hope you would make this right. Guess I should be thankful that he did send me something.

Ordering form them online or over the phone has always been a good experience for me.

However, when I went into the shop it was a totally different story. Harry was downright mean to the young man working there, putting him down in front of customers and telling him "Don't make me tell you again..." regarding little details.

Employees can have differences, but they should be solved after hours, not in front of customers.

Also, Harry was always trying to sell me something that I didn't want. I told him I was into mentalism and he tried to sell me everything else under the sun.

I also noticed that they were manufacturing their own versions of copyrighted packet tricks and some other effects. Ethics in magic are dying, but for dealers to participate in that slow death is not something i want to take part in.

Pros: Nice selection
Cons: Employees that sell you ANYTHING you don't want, and then are rude with each other about it all.

My wife had to go outside while I checked out the shop; she couldn't handle the obnoxiousness of the three guys bantering back and forth, trying to be funny. I lasted another 15 minutes and had to leave also.

O.K I've purchased many times in the past from Daytona Magic. I was happy with them until one time I had a problem and the way they solved it disturbed me. I purchased "elastic"
thread for a certain magic effect, They sent me the wrong thread (thin kind). I called Daytona to tell them they sent wrong thread. I was told to send it back...So I did. I called 2 weeks later to see what happened. They told me they got package but thread wasn't in there? I was told I would have to buy it again for them to send it? Let me see...they send wrong thread, it gets lost in mail...I have to buy again....That's not a professional way to treat a repeat customer over a $10 item. You make your decision..............

Maybe I caught Harry on the wrong day, but I’m not too impressed with people who talk down to their employees, or publicly humiliate them. Seriously I felt for the young guy behind the counter. Also the type of pushy sales tactics that he used, come on its magic not used cars. My vote is to only buy online, going in there was such a disappointment.

The great thing about Daytona is that even if they don't have a product you are looking for (not likely) then they will either find it for you immediatly or have it made! That' right have it made! Great customer service. The prices can be a little much but other then that they are absolutely wonderful.

You really can't top pros like Irv Cook and Harry Allen, now that Al Cohen has left the dealer business (and what a loss he is -- one of the legends!). Always friendly, among the most knowledgeable around, great folks demoing, selling top-shelf items -- what more can you ask from a dealer? I've never had a problem with returns (kept getting a bad set of Kamillion Koins -- they eventually sent me three of them for me to choose from). Tremendous online store with 20% off of the books and videos you want. These guys are the best.
